In 2012 we experienced the introduction of yet another Polish manufacturer on the market for modern locomotives. Pesa presented the all new Gama platform at INNOTRANS 2012. The name Gama was selected as the best name for the new locomotive, after a competition organised by Pesa and rynek-kolejowy.pl. Other good options were Raptor, Quadra and EnergyLok.
Pesa wants to offer both an (multi-system) electric and a diesel-electric version (2400kW) of the Gama. The first unit, no. 111Ed-001 is a four-axle version for 3kV voltage systems (read: the Polish domestic market). As electric locomotive, it has 5600 kW duration power and a additional, CAT C15 combustion engine for shunting purposes.
Railcolor.net comment: The exterior design of the Gama is in line with other modern locomotive products, and is resembling the design of the Pesa Link trainsets very closely. The dynamic elements can be found up front, where the roof lines of both meet in a bow underneath the front windows. Most remarkable detail are the extra daylight light units, similar to those that are now popular in the automotive industry (and were made popular by Audi).
Yesterday we already brought the news that Pesa had sold the Gama Marathon demonstrator locomotive to PHU Lokomotiv. The agreement was signed on 08.07.2015 as the pictures show. 111Ed-001 now has Ecco Rail logos. This freight operator will operate the locomotive.
Together with signing the contract, Pesa, PHU Lokomotiv and Ecco Rail announced the purchase of two extra Gama locomotives.
The presumed buyer is a company called 'Lokomotiv', of which we think think this is its website. The grey machine is currently in service of Ecco Rail, and this freight operator will continue doing so.
Since April 2014, Polish operator Orlen Koltrans is using the Pesa Gama Marathon locomotive for its trains. Previously, the new type of locomotive was also evaluated in revenue service by Lotos Kolej, PKP IC, and Pol-Miedź Trans. [PL] INNOTRANS 2012: Pesa Gama – First DC Last Mile locomotive
On the last day of the fair we were able to inspect the Gama Marathon a bit more thouroughly. Being inside the locomotive we learned that the CAT C15 combustion engine aboard has a bit more power than those in TRAXX or Vectron (only 180kW). And it is the first true DC Last Mile locomotive on the market. Pesa possibly begins the construction of a second unit this year. Nice features on the Gama locomotive at the fair was the extra lighting between buffers, next to a camera.

[PL] INNOTRANS 2012: Pesa Gama to be evaluated by LOTOS
LOTOS is an important operator for both Polish newcomers in the locomotive market. It will purchase five ZNLE Dragon locomotives, and it will intensively evaluate the new locomotive of Pesa, the Gama Marathon. Officially: 'LOTOS will determine of the new locomotive will meet the parameter values as promised'.
Yesterday, Pesa revealed it's new locomotive, the Gama Marathon 111Ed-001. LOTOS had an important role in this ceremony, because 'LOTOS wants the best products from the domestic market', as stated by Pesa. Also, the Gama Marathon is officially recommended by the professional association of train drivers in Poland. However, this recommendation must be based on the design of the driver's desk, not the driving experience, as the Gama still has to start its initial test runs.

[PL] Pesa Marathon: another electric with a Last Mile solution
The locomotive Pesa will present at the Innotrans will have an additional combustion engine. This special version will be called 'Marathon', because the additional engine will have a range of 40 km, almost as far as ... yes. Curious is that Pesa states that only one other competitor is working on a similar solution. They must have missed the news about the Vectron Last Mile.

[PL] Wonder what a Pesa Gama would look like? Check the Pesa Link!
Pesa from Poland, Is currently developing the new Gama locomotive platform. A rendering of the future design is now also available in white. What strikes us most is the front end design of the locomotive and its similarity with the recently presented Pesa Link train sets. Is Pesa developing some uniformity here? Stadler does the same with its FLIRT and KISS platforms. There are the driver coaches with a locomotive cab (eg RailJet). Bombardier, Siemens and Alstom have one design for their standard locomotives, but its a first to see some synergy between a locomotive and a train set in modern products.

[PL] TRAKO 2011: Pesa locomotive platform has a name: GAMA
In 2012 we will experience the introduction of yet another Polish manufacturer on the market for modern locomotives. Pesa will present the Gama platform.
Gama was selected as the best name for the new locomotive. Other good options were Raptor, Quadra and EnergyLok.
New is that Pesa wants to offer both an (multi-system) electric and a diesel-electric version (2200kW) of the Gama.
The first unit to be built will be ready in 2012 and will be a four-axle version for 3kV voltage systems (read: the Polish domestic market). This version, designated as 111E, will have 5600 kW duration power and a additional, small combustion engine for shunting purposes. The first actual answer to the Traxx AC3 LM also. - RK/Pesa
Railcolor.net comment: The exterior design of the Gama is in line with other modern locomotive products. The prospect shows us a rather dark impression of a black and gray locomotive. Only dynamic elements can be found up front, where the roof lines of both meet in a bow underneath the front windows. Most remarkable detail are the extra daylight light units, similar to those that are now popular in the automotive industry (and were made popular by Audi). What their function is on a locomotive is unclear. The sides are enhanced by a white and green pattern of squares. Let's hope this will look better in combination with the black in real life...

Interesting news this weekend on http://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl. Rolling stock manufacturer PESA is developing a new multi purpose platform for four-axle electric locomotives. Both the markets for freight and passenger services should be served with this new concept.
In the mean time, PESA announced a name-giving competition for their new platform. Everyone can participate and submit up to two names. All details here. The dead line for this competition is 30.09.2011, 23.59h.
