The Italian private railway operator Compagnia Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.A. (CFI) has awarded Siemens a contract for two Vectron DC locomotives. It is the first order from Italy for Vectron with a shunting module and the second order placed at Siemens by CFI. The vehicles will be built at the Siemens plant in Munich-Allach and delivered to the customer in the second half of 2014.
With a driving power of 5.2 megawatt Vectron DC operates at a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The contract awarded by CFI is the first which Siemens has received for its Vectron DC locomotives with shunting module. CFI is one of the most experienced and emerging companies for freight traffic in Italy and is already a Siemens customer having ordered two ES64U4 locomotives in 2011 (Railcolor: E190 321 and 322, see second picture).
The Vectron fleet has already traveled more than two million kilometers. Siemens was already able to sell more than 130 Vectron locos to nine international customers so far. The biggest order (80 locomotives Vectron AC) has been placed by Finnish Railways VR just recently – those also being equipped with shunting modules.
The Vectron locomotives are based on a technical platform. This concept enables Siemens to design and manufacture vehicle variants such as single system or multi system locomotives according to customer-specific requirements within a short time. The locomotives are prepared for implementation of a shunting module, which can be added in a second step. The shunting module allows for operation on non-electrified track sections (“last mile operation”). - Siemens |

[IT] First renevue service with a Vectron in Italy
Good news. This afternoon, CFI 191 012 had the honor to make the first commercial run of a Vectron locomotive in Italy. The machine took these wagons from Fiorenzuola / Rivalta Scrivia to Piacenza. The run was also used for training CFI drivers. Note that the locomotive still needs to receive its CFI logos in green, red and white. (Ferdinando Ferrari / Ferrovie.it)

[DE/AT/IT] Vectron transport weekend: 191 011 and 012 for CFI leave Munich [updated]
Today, RailAdventure 103 222 is taking two Vectron locomotives for Italy to Brenner station. The machines involved are the grey 191 011 and 191 012 for Italian railfreight operator CFI. Both machines were ordered in February 2014 and completed right away in the consecutive months. However, as Siemens is still awaiting the official approval of the Vectron for Italy, delivery was suspended until now.
Update: The machines have arrived at Brenner station this afternoon. Now their journey will continue to Bologna (IT).
FuoriMuro from Italy also awaits the delivery of two Vectron locomotives (191 002 and 003). These were ordered in March 2012. The two locomotives have been parked in Munich for quite some time now, they were already seen being completed early in 2014.

[IT] CFI Vectron news (191 031 and 032)
Various news about the two Vectron locomotives for Compagnia Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.A. (CFI). Unlike what was thought until now, the two locomotive will be delivered with Italian designation 191 031 and 032. By delivery they will not have the desired shunting module built in, so they will be normal Vectron DC units until they will be retrofitted with these small diesel engines. As the picture shows, one CFI Vectron is completed already. - Siemens
The official profiles of both machines are now available on our website:

[IT] Vectron 191 001 is moving, 189 823 hired to CFI [update]
After a long period of standstill, movement has been recorded regarding the Vectron testbed locomotive in Italy, the designated 191 001.
One week ago, the locomotive was transported from Bologna Interporto to Firenze. It is being prepared for dynamic tests. The graffiti was removed during the past days.
[Update] On 14.02.2014, the test train was ready, being composed of locomotives RFI 402B 101 and 142 and Austrian passenger coaches and of course 191 001. Images here.
Homologation for the South European country is an important issue, with now two pending deliveries of Vectron locomotives to Italian operators. The FuoriMuro 191 002 and 003 are ready, but are parked around the Siemens factory in Munich. Delivery of these machines was originally scheduled for late 2013.
Since yesterday we know about CFI, also about to receive two Vectron locomotive in the second half of 2014. For now, CFI will operate the last 189 series stock locomotive available, 189 823. - MS
