[UZ/RU] 2ES10 electrics for the Ukrainian railways
Railjournal brings the news about the Ukrainian railways (UZ), having closed a deal with Premier Leasing for financing 350 new freight electrics.
Part of this 2.8 billion US dollar deal are 50 locomotives to be delivered by Ural locomotives (Siemens + Sinara). UZ is the third customer for the 2ES10 twin-section locomotive, presented in 2010. Similar locomotives are built for the Russian railways (RZD) and OAO Apatit mining company.
An initial agreement between UZ and Ural Locomotives was signed in 2012. First units should be ready for service in 2014. They will be operated by Lviv Railways, part of the Ukrainian railways.

[RU] Ural Locomotives; Update x2
It is not easy to keep up with the very dynamic locomotive market in Russia and the other GOS countries. European manufacturers are gratefully supporting the local industry with developing modern top of the bill products. Siemens is teaming up with Sinara. Together they established Ural Locomotives. All recent developments concerning this joint-venture summarized:
First a scheme with all orders/MoU, figures and class designations:
With the help of Siemens, the figure above has been updated. The second and third order may include (2)ES6 model locomotives too.
Designations for the recent order of 350
During the Hannover Messe, the Russian railways and Ural locomotives (Siemens+Sinara) signed a memorandum of understanding for the delivery of 350 single body electric locomotives. Two different types will be developed: ES7 (25kV AC) and ES10 (3kV DC). The final contract should be signed in 2014. In 2020 all 350 units should be delivered. - EK/Siemens
Modified design for 2ES7
At this moment, Ural Locomotives is developing the 25kV AC version of the Granit. This type has the working designation 2ES7. A first locomotive is currently under construction. In August 2013 the prototype should arrive at the VNIIZhT test center in Shcherbinka. After that it will be exhibited during the next EXPO 1520 fair, to be held from 11 until 14 September 2013.
First impressions of this new type of locomotive showed a cab design very similar to that of the 2ES10. But more recent artist impressions show a more detailed design with horizontal lamp housings in stead of vertical ones. A special grey livery is applied with red, white and blue details and promotional EXPO 1520 inscriptions on the side. - railvolution
Ukraine tenders for 2ES10 locomotives
Also the railways of the Ukraine (UZ) want 2ES10 locomotives. Under a leasing scheme they want to put 43 locomotives into service. Recently, UZ also ordered 300 new electric locomotives from Luhanskteplovoz, a subsidiary of Transmashholding. These twin-section machines will be designated 2EL4 (3kV DC) and 2EL5 (25kV AC). - railvolution

In connection with this year's Hannover Messe, Russian State Railways (RZD) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the order of 350 electric locomotives. They are to be developed and produced by Ural Locomotives, a joint venture of Sinara and Siemens, for use in feeder services, and built in the Ural Locomotives plant in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Delivery to RZD is planned to be completed by 2020. It is also intended that Ural Locomotives will be responsible for the entire maintenance and servicing of the locomotives. The corresponding contract is scheduled to be concluded next year.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Peter Löscher, President and CEO of Siemens AG, Vladimir Yakunin, President of RZD, and Dmitri Pumpyansky, President of the Sinara Group. At the signing ceremony, Jochen Eickholt, CEO of Siemens Rail Systems, said, "The agreement reached today is more than a sign of the very close partnership between RZD and Siemens Rail Systems. With our Ural Locomotives joint venture and the plant in Yekaterinburg, we are ideally positioned to provide RZD with reliable, modern trains and locomotives."
RZD had previously signed a memorandum of understanding at the end of 2012 concerning the planned order of 675 type 2ES10 locomotives, also known as the "Granit", which are also to be built in the Ural Locomotives plant in Yekaterinburg. - Siemens
