This week we already brought you an extra portrait of the Turkish E68000 class locomotives. Now we go to Russia, where Siemens and Sinara (aka Uralskie lokomotivy) are outshopping their -Granit- locomotives, the 2ES10 series of the Russian railways (RZD). We got several images of this fast growing locomotive family from MrGranit96.
The image above shows double unit 2ES10-118 with booster unit 2ES10.S-002. With such an additional section, a Granit can develop a staggering 13.2 MW hour rating. Uralskie lokomotivy completed the first booster section back in May 2014. A triple-section locomotive, one Granit is able to pull freight trains of up to 9.000 tonnes.
Some Granit facts:
- Uralskie lokomotivy is currently building the first batch of 221 2ES10 locomotives
- Ural Locomotives also offers the 2ES7, the 25kV AC version of the 2ES10
- Three machines were built for the railways of the Ukraine (2ES10 001-003 -Svyatogor-) in 2013, but these were repatriated to Russia as political tensions between both states worsened in 2014
- 2ES10-222 was deliverd for mining company OAO Apatit. Originally it as built as 2ES10-012 for the Russian railways

[RU] Ural Locomotives 2ES7 series locomotive in RZD livery
For the first time, we see the new 2ES7 series locomotive in the livery of the Russian railways (RZD). Developing this locomotive, being a AC version of the 2ES10 'Granit' locomotives from the same manufacturer, was initiated back in 2012. Last year, a first machine was presented during EXPO1520. But this engine had a different number (11201-001, being derived from the Ural Locomotives project designation) and a more dynamic livery.
Ural Locomotives, a JV of Siemens and Sinara, is developing a complete pallet of electrics, incorporating both single and multi-system electrics.

[RU] EXPO 1520: Siemens and Sinara present the '11201'
Siemens:
At the international rail salon "Expo 1520“ in Moscow, Russia, a
new AC locomotive was presented for freight transport in
countries with the 1520 gauge. The type AC 11201 locomotive
was developed by Ural Locomotives, a joint venture of Siemens
and the Sinara Group. Siemens supplied the propulsion system
for the locomotive.
The first prototype of the locomotive was completed in July 2013 and has since
undergone more than 5,000 kilometers of testing. Tests for the locomotive’s
authorization are currently ongoing and are expected to be completed in April 2014.
They are being conducted primarily on the test tracks of the All-Russian Railway
Research Institute in Shcherbinka, near Moscow.
“The new locomotive offers innovative and energy-efficient technology, and was
developed in record time by our Russian and German engineers,” said Jochen
Eickholt, CEO of the Rail Systems Division, at the locomotive’s presentation.
The AC 11201 is an eight-axle double locomotive with four bogies. It was designed
for hauling freight trains of up to 9,000 tons. “The electric locomotive can be
operated in all countries with the 1520 gauge,“ noted Alexander Saltaev, General
Director of Ural Locomotives.
On 17.10.2012, Ural Locomotives presented the technical concept of a 25kV AC version of the 2ES10 'Granit' locomotives, built for the Russian railways (RZD). This project has working title '2ES7', that could be the future RZD-designation of this new type.
In the meantime, Ural Locomotives has completed the prototype locomotive, with works designation '11201 001'. The exterior design of the 11201 is quite different, compared to the original Granit-design.

[RU] Ural Locomotives; Update x2
It is not easy to keep up with the very dynamic locomotive market in Russia and the other GOS countries. European manufacturers are gratefully supporting the local industry with developing modern top of the bill products. Siemens is teaming up with Sinara. Together they established Ural Locomotives. All recent developments concerning this joint-venture summarized:
First a scheme with all orders/MoU, figures and class designations:
With the help of Siemens, the figure above has been updated. The second and third order may include (2)ES6 model locomotives too.
Designations for the recent order of 350
During the Hannover Messe, the Russian railways and Ural locomotives (Siemens+Sinara) signed a memorandum of understanding for the delivery of 350 single body electric locomotives. Two different types will be developed: ES7 (25kV AC) and ES10 (3kV DC). The final contract should be signed in 2014. In 2020 all 350 units should be delivered. - EK/Siemens
Modified design for 2ES7
At this moment, Ural Locomotives is developing the 25kV AC version of the Granit. This type has the working designation 2ES7. A first locomotive is currently under construction. In August 2013 the prototype should arrive at the VNIIZhT test center in Shcherbinka. After that it will be exhibited during the next EXPO 1520 fair, to be held from 11 until 14 September 2013.
First impressions of this new type of locomotive showed a cab design very similar to that of the 2ES10. But more recent artist impressions show a more detailed design with horizontal lamp housings in stead of vertical ones. A special grey livery is applied with red, white and blue details and promotional EXPO 1520 inscriptions on the side. - railvolution
Ukraine tenders for 2ES10 locomotives
Also the railways of the Ukraine (UZ) want 2ES10 locomotives. Under a leasing scheme they want to put 43 locomotives into service. Recently, UZ also ordered 300 new electric locomotives from Luhanskteplovoz, a subsidiary of Transmashholding. These twin-section machines will be designated 2EL4 (3kV DC) and 2EL5 (25kV AC). - railvolution
