 On 21.12.2010, Renfe and SNCF Geodis (Naviland Cargo) started a freight service from Barcelona via Perpignan in Spain to France: the BarceLyon Express. For this purpose, Renfe adapted four normal gauge S/252s and two 319 series diesel locomotives for services over the new high speed line from Figueras to Perpignan, so they could reach the Perpignan International freight yard from Barcelona and go into France from there. The French safety authority EPSF approved the locomotives on 16.12.2010 for the French network.
The four S/252 units involved are 252-017, 024, 025 and 028. They are quite easy to distinguish, as they got additional Mercancias logos.
