On 22.12.2010, Siemens published the news that they had found a launching customer for their Vectron platform; Lease company Railpool. In 2012 Siemens delivered six Vectron electrics to Railpool, designated 193 801 to 806.
These Railpool locomotives are configurated for both passenger and freight services; The top speed of these dual frequency (15kV and 25kV AC) locomotives is 200 kph and the duration power is 6400 kW. Their weight is 87 metric tonnes and they are homologated for Germany and Austria. They were all built and assembled in Siemens’ locomotive plant in Munich-Allach.
In May 2014, it was published that Railpool was sold by its founders to Oak Capital. The deal came with ordering 5 new Vectron locomotives, the designated 193 810-814. In 2015 three more were ordered (183 815-817). In 2016 Railpool again closed a contract for new Vectron locomotives. Five machines were ordered (193 824-828) with an option for ten more.

[DE/AT] Railpool 193 806 now with TX Logistik promo
Railpool 193 806 recently changed operator. It is no longer in service of EVB, but TX Logistik. It means also the DVS insurance livery is gone. It has been replaced by white stickers promoting TXL. Thank you Kai-Florian Köhn.
Austrian rail operator SETG is fanatically applying its green and white stickers on Vectron locomotives. Now we know why the recently delivered ELL 193 240 was plain white.
Green/white SETG livery: ELL 193 240, Railpool 193 814, Siemens>ELL 193 821. ELL 193 204 is the Christian Doppler-locomotive and ELL 193 831 commemorates Mozart. A nice video from Martin Radner:

[EU] GIC from Singapore takes 49% share in Railpool
Since May 2014, Oaktree Capital was the 100% owner of Railpool. It acquired the lease company from its founders: KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH and HSH Nordbank AG.
Now it announces that Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC has taken a 49% stake in Railpool. This deal provides more financial security for the ongoing fleet expansion of Railpool.
SETG is currently re-styling more locomotives. Both Railpool 193 814 and Siemens 193 821 got a new white and green livery. An image of the 814 with a timber train Lübeck (DE) - Schwaz (AT) on 15.01.2016 made by Patrik Meyer-Rienitz.
Two things are remarkable, unlike X4 E 607-611 for MRCE, the newest machines are again black in stead of white (of 612 we are not sure yet). And X4 E-615 [edit: 614 DE/AT only] has additional approval for Hungary, whereas the 607-611 are DE/AT only locomotives. (Michael Raucheisen / Niklas Eimers / Norbert Galle)
New in service: Railpool>EVB 193 817. This machine is part of a batch of three, together with 193 815 (white, runs for NIAG) and 193 816. (Norbert Galle)

[EU] Railpool sold to Oaktree, 5 new Vectrons ordered
Last week we brought you the news that Beacon Rail got a new owner. Now another leasing company is being sold. Oaktree Capital has acquired Railpool from KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH and HSH Nordbank AG.
On 09.05.2014, funds managed by Oaktree, a leader among global investment managers specializing in alternative investments, acquired all shares of Railpool. The previous shareholders are the two banks KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH and HSH Nordbank AG, each with 50 percent. Both banks will continue to be lenders to Railpool and support the future growth of the company. The purchase price was not disclosed.
"We plan significant investments in new, innovative vehicles, the expansion of our excellent team as well as the internationalization of our business. As we continue to offer our customers modern, interoperable locomotives with an attractive full-service package, we are very pleased to welcome Oaktree as an excellent partner, who will support us strategically and financially in our plans going forward," said Torsten Lehnert.
The Vectron series of locomotives has completed its certification procedure for conventional rail transport in accordance with the Technical Specification for Interoperability TSI CR LOC&PAS. The EC certificate was presented yesterday by Ulrich Wiescholek, Head of the German notified body Eisenbahn-Cert (EBC), to Karl-Hermann Klausecker, CEO of Siemens Locomotives and Components.
“Vectron is the first electrical locomotive platform to be certified according to this specification in Europe. The certificate enormously simplifies for us the process of national approvals with regard to the expenditure and the time required. This means we have taken another important step toward approval of the Vectron throughout Europe”, said Karl-Hermann Klausecker on receiving the certificate.
The Vectron locomotives thus meet all standardized, pan-European technical specifications for the approval of locomotives. These specifications not only include the TSI CR LOC&PAS, but also the TSI HS RST for rolling stock of the trans-European high-speed rail system, Class 2 (vehicles with a maximum speed of between 190 km/h and 250 km/h), the TSI SRT (safety in rail tunnels), the TSI PRM (access for persons with restricted mobility), the noise requirements according to the TSI HS RST and the TSI NOI (rolling stock - noise) of conventional rail transport, and the TSI CCS (control, command and signaling) when using an ERTM system.
This has established the basis for obtaining the individual national approvals in Europe more easily and with considerably reduced test expenditure. At present, the approval authorities of all EU member states are aligning their national approval requirements with the TSI regulations. This means that only those national requirements that are not covered by the TSI still have to be met. These are being notified to the European Railway Agency (ERA) as National Technical Rules (NTR).
We already brought the news about 193 922 being repainted in the livery of Railpool.
Both locomotives will be hired to a Swedish passenger operator for at least three years, as of December 2013. They will be used for passenger services. blataget.com is mentioned as the operator.

[DE/AT] Railpool receives first Vectron locomotive
update 2012|11|14
[DE/AT] Railpool receives first Vectron locomotive
Today, Siemens handed over the first locomotive from its Vectron series at an event attended by Martin Zeil, the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs. During the ceremony, Railpool took delivery of the first vehicle from Dr. Jochen Eickholt, CEO of the Siemens Rail Systems Division. The Munich-based locomotive leasing company had ordered a total of six locomotives from Siemens at the end of 2010. "This is the first delivery of a locomotive based
on our new platform. It is an encouraging signal for our business", Eickholt stressed. Minister Martin Zeil went on to say: "The development of this flexible locomotive concept and the demand it has generated demonstrate the competitiveness of the Bavarian rail industry. The Vectron will make rail transportation even more attractive and take the strain off the road system well beyond Bavaria's borders."
At the end of 2010, Railpool was the first company to decide in favor of the newly developed Vectron generation. Summarizing the reasons for his firm's decision, Dr. Walter Breinl, CEO of Railpool GmbH, said: "The decisive factor for Railpool was that we can deploy the Vectron in freight, regional and intercity services without restriction – in other words the locomotives are totally interchangeable." The Railpool locomotives have a rated power of 6,400 kW and have been designed to run at up to 200 km/h. The vehicles will be used in cross-border passenger and freight services in Germany and Austria and are equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS). The locomotives have already been fitted with the wiring for other train protection systems. That means that, in future, their area of operation can easily be extended, for example via Hungary toward Constanta, Romania. The locomotives are being built at the locomotive factory in Munich-Allach, Germany. The Vectron AC locomotives for Railpool are equipped with TMC and WTB multiple traction control with an Austrian remote control concept.
When hitched up for double running, Vectron locomotives can achieve a total tractive effort of 600 kN with absolutely no limitations. In order to ensure a high level of availability of its Vectron locomotives, Railpool signed up for spare parts supply from Siemens' warehouse, an option from the Railcover modular system. This order was the first time in Railpool's short history that it decided to buy Siemens' locomotives. Railpool GmbH was founded in 2008 as a joint venture between the KfW IPEX Bank and HSH Nordbank; the company leases locomotives and cars for the freight, regional and intercity services to rail operators with and without full service. This order put their number of locomotives up to 100 and the investment total up to 450 million Euros. - Siemens

[DE/AT] first Railpool Vectron locomotive ready to roll
Mid-2012, Siemens will deliver the first Vectron locomotive to lease company Railpool. By then, German EBA should have given full approval to the Vectron in Germany.
Railpool ordered six Vectron AC locomotives back in 2010; the designated 193 801 to 806. They will be configured for both freight and passenger services, with a top speed of 200 kph and a destination display up front. They have a dual-frequency (15+25kV AC) configuration with 6400kW duration power. All safety and signalling systems required for Germany and Austria will be on board. - Siemens
Railcolor: Up till now Railpool only has Traxx units in its portfolio, with top speeds of 140 kph. In the next couple of years we expect some new players in the market for (international) passenger services, so these Vectrons are a useful addition to the Railpool fleet. They are right on time for the HKX for example. Railpool Vectron

Don't worry, we are not missing out on the new Traxx AC3 from Bombardier. However, we have decided to first make the story complete before we publish. Also have a bit more patience for the interesting details about this project.
However, there was more! We start with the seventh Vectron from the locomotive production of Siemens in Munich. Unit 193 krupp_2884_02 (the third AC configurated machine) was present at the fair with Railpool markings. This is not the final design of course, but just to emphasize the fact that Siemens has found a launching customer for its new product last December. At the Railpool booth inside one could admire a model of a Vectron in a more genuine Railpool-livery; plain silver, black fronts and with the blue surfaces. Its (fictional) number was 193 801.

[DE/AT] Railpool orders six high-speed Vectrons
Big news today, Siemens has found a launching customer for its new Vectron platform. Lease company Railpool has decided to expand its fleet with high-speed locomotives, capable of running with a top speed of 200 kph. Up till now, Railpool only has electric units that can be pushed up to 160 kph.
Railpool however is careful. After the 58 Bombardier Traxx units from 2008, six Vectrons are a minor investment. But, the Vectron has just started its career and an order for a non-existing project always communicates confidence to Siemens and to other potential customers. Railpool plans to use their new Siemens units for both freight and passenger services and they will be homologated for Germany and Austria. This requires a Vectron AC configurated locomotive with 6400 kW duration power and a 200 kph top speed. Its weight is 87 metric tons. Delivery will begin in the middle of 2012. The locomotives will be built and finish-assembled in Siemens’ locomotive plant in Munich-Allach. The bogies will be supplied by the Siemens Mobility plant in Graz, Austria. - Siemens
