1st order |
The freight division of the Wiener Lokalbahnen (WLB), named WLC, got its first own locomotive in January 2009. Up till then the WLB primarily used electrics leased from (MRCE/Siemens) Dispolok. Before delivery, the WLC used unit 183 602 for testing and training. The first unit, the designated 1216 950, arrived by the end of the month, homologated for Germany and Austria only. In 2009 and 2010, the 950 was used together with the hired ES64U2s for freight trains towards to Dutch border. In the summer of 2010 it was sent to Hungary for homologation tests with SLB 91.
This was done because in the mean time the WLC decided to order four additional units, with additional homologation for Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, to be used at the East-West axis from Hamburg to Budapest.
Because Siemens already had several ES64U4 units in stock at that moment, short term delivery was guaranteed. In the first week of August 2010, the first new unit was outshopped, with number 1216 951. Within days it was renumbered 183 704. One month later, WLC also recieved 183 705.
In 2011 unit four and five were delivered. They got, and kept, their 1216 number: 1216 953 and 954. The last one was presented with a special green livery promoting the logistics company Hödlmayr
In September 2012 an extra locomotive was added to the fleet. Former stock locomotuve 183 713 was acquired and put into service as 1216 955, with a livery of Roland Spedition from Austria.

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo has renumbered locomotive 183 705. It's new number: 1216 952. The machine is now registered in Austria, and not in Germany anymore. - MN/LW
Update: First notices come in that locomotive 183 704 is renumbered too, now being 1216 951. That would mean all WLC machines now have a 1216 designation.

[AT] various news from Linz (e.g. 1216 in green - 1116 153 CATS)
Last June, the work shops of Linz outshopped Hector Rail 242.503 'Balboa' after an extensive refurbishment. That engine was the first ready for services in Sweden. 182.531 'LaMotta' is now in Linz.
Siemens 21415, soon to be delivered to the WLC, and the very last ES64U4 so it seems, is also in Linz. It is painted in green and white. It will get a promotional livery for Hödlmayr.
The same Bahnforum.info show OBB 1116 153 in black, soon to promote the musical CATS.
This week, SZ 541.007 and 016 were damaged in Jesenice (SI). They had a frontal collision with a train set, while heading a freight train. Some extra work for Linz.. - GA

update 2011|06|19
[AT] two new ES64U4 released: RTS 1216 903 and WLC 1216 953 [update]
Since this week, two new ES64U4 locomotives have been delivered to their operators:
Siemens 21651 - RTS 1216 903: The third unit for this operator and released as version D, approved for Germany and Austria only. As the locomotive has performed test in Hungary before delivery, we expect that this will change..
Second unit is Siemens 21414 - WLC 1216 953 / 91 83 1216 953-0 A-WLC: Curiously numbered as 1216 and not as 183 706 as expected. It is the fourth unit for WLC and the third from the latest order of four, also still one to come.
update: the UIC grid of both engines tell us that they are only approved for Germany and Austria, for what its worth. However, the 1216 903 is version D, that should indicate that it will have the same package as the Polish PKP locomotives. An SHP-magnet for Poland is visible on the locomotive.
The 1216 953 is soon to be version C, to be homologated for [AT] [DE] [CZ] [SK] and maybe [HU]?. However, on this engine the NVR-number is strange.. 91 83 tells us that it should be Italian in some way... but the letter A stands for Austria. Next to that the check digit -0 only is correct when 81 (Austria) is used in stead of 83. - HP/ML/RB/DdP
Now only two ES64U4s from the current production are still awaiting delivery: WLC 1216 954 / 183 707 and InRail E190 312.

update 2010|07|20
[AT] WLC orders four new electrics
Today Siemens announced two new orders; Firstly, the Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo (WLC), a subsidiary of Wiener Stadtwerke, has ordered four universal locomotives to serve the important East-West axis from Hamburg to Budapest; the locomotives for WLC will be manufactured in Munich and also at the Technical Service facility of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) Linz.
WLC is an important private provider of non-stop transport on Austria's East-West axis. The first Siemens locomotives have been in service on behalf of this company since 2002. The new locomotives will run on lines in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia. The contract which has recently been concluded also covers the maintenance and servicing of the locomotives. - Siemens
RC comment: We are talking about four additional ES 64 U4 / 1216 units here; the 1216 950 (title picture) will get company. Siemens has those machines in stock. Four will be selected now and get their customer specific modifications.

update 2009|02|09
[AT] WLCs new electrics
As was published before, Siemens will deliver ten ES 64 U4 electrics to the Polish national railways. In November 2008 the first machine that is involved in this order was completed and transported to Poland, where it will be used for the homologation of this type of electrics for Poland. At this moment it is designated '183 601' and painted in the PKP Intercity livery. It respresents the ES 64 U4-D configuration which is now only approved for Germany and Austria. Its UIC-number, ending with STS-LM (=Siemens Transportation Systems - Lokomotiven) markings indicates that Siemens is still the 'holder' of the machine. As reported at Drehscheibe-online, this machine should be in Germany right now for retrofitting.
On 22.12.2008 however a second machine was completed by Siemens, with similar UIC-markings and designation '183 602'. However, it was painted completely white.
During the first weeks of January 2009 the 183 602 was then hired to the Wiener Lokalbahnen (WLC) to haul container shuttles for example, but also to be used for staff training, as the WLC would get their own 'ES 64 U4' pretty soon, represented by the blue and creme painted 1216 950, a VG-configurated ES 64 U4.
At the end of January the three-week WLC career of the 183 602 ended. It was last seen in Germany. - elektrolok.de/DSO
