In June 2008, Polish operator PKP awarded Siemens with a contract for 10 new electrics for passenger services (PKP IC). Total volume of the order, including VAT, was 54 million Euro. Siemens was the only bidder for this contract. In September 2008, PKP presented the livery design for its new high speed locomotives and set up a competition to find a good name for them. This name was revealed on 11.12.2008: 'Husarz'. It means husar.

[PL/UA] the Euro2012 locomotives of PKP IC [updated]
Last update: 27.04.2012 7.06 PM CET
PKP IC is currently restyling up to twenty locomotives to celebrate the upcoming Euro2012 European football championships, organized by Poland and the Ukraine. This is similar to what the Austrian railways did back in 2007-2008 for Euro2008. Then, sixteen Taurus locomotives got a special livery, most of them representing one of the countries that took part in the tournament. In this item, all information about this initiative will be gathered.
In March 2012, PKP IC 5 370 001 was the first unit to get a special Euro2012 livery, based on the Polish flag. Since then all Polish 'Husarz' locomotives got a special livery; six of them represent a country (more or less) neighboring Poland. The last four units present of of the four Polish football stadiums. And then there are ten PKP IC EP09 units, all representing one the participating countries again. The other 19 units got their special livery in April 2012. An overview:
Since 24th May, the PKP ICs 370s are running from Poland to the Czech Republic. They bring EuroCity 110/111 ''Praha'' from Warsaw towards Prague, but as for now, they do not get beyond the place of Bohumin, near the PL/CZ border. The 370s are also used for the R 407/408 ''Chopin'' night train from Vienna to Warsaw. Again, the PKP units only haul the Bohumin to Warsaw section. - www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/JP

[DE/PL] new designation for Polish Husarz
Last friday, 'Husarz' no.7 and 8 were transported from Linz to Munich-Allach. New is that these two machines have a different designation. They do not have the 183-numbers inspired by the old DB system anymore, but short numbers based in the PKP IC NVR numbers. From now on we have to refer to them as the 5 370 0xx series. Both machines also have the '1251' marking on both cabs, that is the Train Operator Code (TOC) of PKP IC.
The TOC of PKP Cargo should be 2151 then. - GR

A little miracle today in Poland; the brand new Siemens locomotives 183 603 and 604, that arrived in Poland yesterday, already completed their first revenue services (well with a little help form some extra engineers...) today! Some nice pictures also.
Remarkable is that these machines also travelled to Poland on their own power. It seems that both Germany and Poland now tolerate the Husarz on their networks. Also remarkable is that all PKP 183 locomotives still carry the STSLM markings on their frames, which tells us that Siemens is still the halter of all units.

[DE] Siemens on the move
Two interesting convoys lately. On 22.03.2009, ER 20-013 (Bosphorus Europe Express) transported the first serie-produced 18 series locomotive for the Belgian Railways (designated HLE 1803) from Munich to Wegberg-Wildenrath. Along came the brand new ES 64 F4-285 and 286 for MRCE Dispolok.
As was published before, Siemens will deliver ten ES 64 U4 electrics to the Polish national railways. In November 2008 the first machine that is involved in this order was completed and transported to Poland, where it will be used for the homologation of this type of electrics for Poland. At this moment it is designated '183 601' and painted in the PKP Intercity livery. It respresents the ES 64 U4-D configuration which is now only approved for Germany and Austria. Its UIC-number, ending with STS-LM (=Siemens Transportation Systems - Lokomotiven) markings indicates that Siemens is still the 'holder' of the machine. As reported at Drehscheibe-online, this machine should be in Germany right now for retrofitting.
On 22.12.2008 however a second machine was completed by Siemens, with similar UIC-markings and designation '183 602'. However, it was painted completely white.
During the first weeks of January 2009 the 183 602 was then hired to the Wiener Lokalbahnen (WLC) to haul container shuttles for example, but also to be used for staff training, as the WLC would get their own 'ES 64 U4' pretty soon, represented by the blue and creme painted 1216 950, a VG-configurated ES 64 U4.
At the end of January the three-week WLC career of the 183 602 ended. It was last seen in Germany. - elektrolok.de/DSO
