The Trenitalia E464 series is currently the biggest single-type locomotive series in Europe; 719 units of these small single cab passenger locomotives have been delivered.
The E464 series (officially TRAXX P160 DCP) was built by the Bombardier assembly plant in Vado Ligure (IT) in the period 1999-2015. They were specifically developed for fast (sub)urban and regional passenger services. An overview of all orders:

End of last year, Bombardier Transportation colleagues in Vado Ligure (Italy) celebrated the delivery of the final E464 locomotive to Trenitalia.
 Nineteen years ago, Bombardier Transport signed the very first order for E464 locomotives with Trenitalia, the primary rail transportation operator and our biggest customer in Italy. Since then, Bombardier has continued to win repeat orders for this locomotive.
Regional operators such as FER (Ferrovie Emilia Romagna) and TFT (Trasporto Ferroviario Toscano) have also placed orders that bring the total number of Bombardier E464 locomotives built at our Italian site in Vado Ligure to 728.
On December 2, 2015, the delivery of the final - 717th unit for Trenitalia was celebrated on-site. All units of the Trenitalia E464 fleet were built in Vado Ligure, and are to date Europe’s biggest homogeneous regional transport fleet.

On 08.12.2014, a family day was held at the Bombardier Vado Ligure works. This provided a quick peek into this factory in then north-western part of Italy. This year Vado Ligure focused on revamping passenger coaches for Trenitalia, combined with a lot of engineering work for the Zefiro-V300 Freccia Rossa high speed trains. However, in the past months the construction of new locomotive was set up again. Three orders will be processed in Vado Ligure. Two project have started.
GTS Rail: The Italian open access freight operator has two additional Traxx DC locomotives on order. E 483.056 is under construction now. E 483.057 will be next.
Trenitalia: This year, Italian state operator Trenitalia decided to expand its Traxx DCP fleet once more. Another 29 units are on order, the designated E 464.689 to E464.717. These machines get the new blue and silver 'regional' livery of Trenitalia.
Akiem: This French lease company has ten Traxx DC locomotives on order. There is an option for ten more. Their production still has to commence.

The 'Divisione Trasporto Regionale di Trenitalia' is introducing a new livery for its trains. Several different types of modern rolling stock is now presented in the new livery. The new base colors are blue and silver, with lime green and orange accents.
The livery was introduced on the new Coradia Meridian trains, currently being built by Alstom. Trenitalia is now operating first trains in revenue service. They are branded as 'Jazz' and are designated ETR425 (5-car trains) and ETR324 (4-car trains).
During the past week, there was an open door day at the Trenitalia depot in Foggia. Surprisingly two other types of trains were presented in the new livery for the first time. The image shows the double deck TAF train no.02 (built by AnsaldoBreda) on the left and ALe501.037 'Minuetto' (Alstom) on the right. In the new livery, the latter type will be difficult to differentiate from the new Jazz trains. They represent the same platform from Alstom, but represent two different generations.
BTW, in February we already brought you the first E464 series locomotive (no. E464 589) in the new livery. Together with these locomotives, the Vivalto double deck rakes are getting a make-over.

Earlier this year, the production of E464 locomotives (Traxx P160 DCP) by Bombardier ended. No less than 699 units were produced since 1999. But it is not over.
Trenitalia has decided to order a supplemental 29 locomotives of the E464 mono-cab design. They will be delivered, together with 150 new double deck coaches, to the Italian regions Veneto, Liguria and Lazio. The contract volume is an estimated 300 million euro. - via tuttotreno/ferrovie.it
At this moment, Trenitalia operates 688 E 464 locomotives. With the new order, this will be 717 units.

 Today, Bombardier in Vado Ligure will deliver the very last E464 locomotive to Trenitalia: E464 688. An era comes to and end, the production of this type started 14 years ago, in 1999.
Bombardier has built a staggering 699 units of this type. E464 001-688 for Trenitalia, ten machines for FER and one for TFT.

Since 1999, Bombardier is building the E464 series for Trenitalia. These economic single cab locomotives have become a common sight throughout Italy these days. In total, 688 units have been ordered. After a production period of more than twelve years, Bombardier is now working on the last batch of fifty units, ordered in 2011. Next year, the production will end. On 06.04.2012 Railcolor could inspect the production line; At that moment, E464 650 to 655 were there, in various stages of assembly. Outside the factory, unit E464 640 was ready for delivery. There have been some outings on the fact that the number of E464s on order could be reduced, as a result of the economical situation Italy is currently in. Some nice things to know about the Trenitalia E464 series, just to fill the vacuum between Christmas and new years eve:
Trenitalia has introduced a new livery for its Leonardo Express, the shuttle service from Rome to Fiumicino airport. Rolling stock used, being blue and yellow painted E464 electrics and push-pull rakes, are being refurbished in Trenitalia green, combined with red and white (scroll down a bit), adding just a tiny bit more style to it.
Next to that, we can celebrate E464 series' 10th anniversary, as first units were spotted on 20.12.1999; Ferrovie.it has a nice little report on it, including an overview of all the liveries used. The Railcolor.net Version 1 website had s small section about these engines, but there has been no time up till now to transfer the info to this website.
This year Trenitalia also decided to order another hundred E464 units, bringing the total on 638 units, a remarkable large batch in these modern times. Work in the Bombardier Vado Ligure factory is now secured until 2012. Production is currently approaching unit number 500. And finally, enjoy the specially painted Quattroseiquattro once more.

Bombardier has been awarded with a supplemental order for 100 Traxx P160DCP electrics, including an option for 50 more units. Since 1999, the Bombardier assembly plant in Vado Ligure (IT) is building such locomotives, better known as Trenitalia class E464. These machines are specifically developed for fast (sub)urban and regional passenger services.
We are not completely sure, but unlike what is stated in most press-items about this news (they state Trenitalia already had 638 units on order), we think (and correct us if we are wrong..) this order raises the number of E464s to be delivered to Trenitalia to an impressive 638 units. An overview:

 On 07.04.1999, the prototype locomotive for the new E464 series for the Italian state railways (FS) was outshopped. The prototype, that is generally known as E464.000, is completely painted except for its cab fronts. The bodies of the first locomotives have been built by SLM in Winterthur (CH).  Standard livery XMPR: For the majority of the E464 series locomotives, the livery is almost the same, based on the colors combination studied by english company XMPR for Trenitalia in 1994; Pantone 2CV Cool Gray for the almost white base, with a good quantity of Pantone 329CV green, and a Pantone 293CV blue stripe. There have been only minor modifications to the livery during the delivery of the the various orders (mostly replacing of numbers, introduction of NVR numbers). And the first batch had a different red surface between the buffers. However, the basic E464 livery is almost the same in all its 14 years of production, from 1999 to 2013. E 464 050: |
 Leonardo Express 1: Specific livery for first class only shuttle service between Rome and Fiumicino Airport, with 5 UIC-X renewed cars. The service started in 2006. It was applied on E464.001-005.
