16 CBRail units taken from Veolia orders |
In 2005 Veolia Cargo (part of the Veolia Transportation group) was the first (and only) non-state owned rail freight operator that ordered Prima locomotives built by Alstom. By ordering electrics with the exact same configuration as the BB 37000 of Fret-SNCF, no one could obstruct Veolia starting freight service in and from France. By the end of 2006 first revenue services with Prima E37500s started.
The initial Veolia order included three units, but the ordered was extended three times, finally including 31 new units. However, the conditions for order three and four were renegotioted before delivery. It was decided that leasing company CBRail would step in, financing 16 of 24 units. Still, six of these units would be operated by Veolia, to be hired from CBRail. These six (37 508, 510, and 517-520) got the Veolia livery by delivery, but with small CBRail logos up front, in stead of the Veolia ones.
In the mean time, Veolia has withdrawn from the market, but CBRail is still active as lease company. All 16 units are available for rent, most of them in a neutral grey livery.

[FR] After 5 years of waiting: finally in service
Locomotive E37521 completed its first trial run more than five years ago (August 2008). Since then, it has been waiting for a lessor, to haul its first commercial train.
But the waiting is over. Since the beginning of this month, Europorte has hired the light grey electric, which we have only seen being parked around Belfort until now. Interesting detail: last Sunday, the five year old machine only had completed a modest 985 kilometer... - FP

[FR] exciting news from France
outside the Alstom factories of Belfort it is possible to catch a first glimpse of an Alstom Prima II for the Morroccan Railways ONCF. The machine is painted orange and grey. Next to this, also a 9600kW CoCo Prima I locomotive was spotted, to be delivered to the Chinese state railways.
Most of the grey-painted E37500 units built for CBRail are also still in Belfort, at least 37521, 37522, 37523, 37525, 37526, 37527 and 37528 were present on 25.07.2009

[FR] Europorte-2 staff training
Two picturs of CBRail E 37512 being used by Europorte-2 for driver training. Its the first 'albino' Prima which has found a lessor.
Europorte-2 (E2) is an open access freight operator, property of EuroTunnel which runs the shuttle-trains through the Chunnel between France and the UK. After 10.02.2009 it is planned to have the Chunnel fully re-opened again (it is now partly closed after the fire of September 2008) and than E2 will start first commercial services between Dourges [FR] and the UK. Next to Prima locomotives, E2 also acquired five class 92 electrics back in 2007, which will surely assist the French newcomers. - LC/wikipedia/EuroTunnel

[FR] red Prima E 37518 for CBRail and Veolia
Last Wednesday, on 08.10.2008, new Prima locomotive E 37518 for CBRail performed several trial runs. It's the first locomotive of the latest, and for now final, batch of 14 Prima locomotives for leasing company CBRail and operator Veolia. Unlike most machines from the previous batch with even service numbers, No. 18 is not painted in CBRail grey, but again in the corporate colours of Veolia. - Our thanks goes out to Trainsdoubs.

[FR] Prima locomotives for VFLI
French freight operator VFLI SA, subsidiariy of the French SNCF Group and member of the European Bulls alliance, will get four new Prima locomotives before the end of 2008. They will be leased from CB Rail, so most likely they will be picked out of the latest batch currently being delivered to this lease company. They machines will get a specific VFLI livery in silver and red - LC

[FR] CB Rail Prima locomotives for rent
We already noticed that the latest Prima locomotives painted in Veolia colours, do also carry CB Rail logos. The operator and the leasing company have made a deal, that offers chances to other operators to enter the French market for rail transport. The details:
The red and light grey painted E37501-E37507, delivered in 2005-2007 are still property of Veolia, no changes there. But the latest machines, starting with E37508, currently on delivery, are financed by CB Rail, and this will be the case for all remaining machines, up to E37531.
This change however has now also consequences for the looks and services of these new machines. E37512 is the first electric from the batch that is painted in a complete light grey livery, the basic colour of many CB Rail machines in Europe. E37513 has the Veolia livery again, E37514 is completely grey.
The biggest news however is that CB Rail not only finances 24 locomotives, but that they will also become available to other operators than Veolia. Machines that are painted grey will therefore rented out to open access operators that are interested in locomotives homologated for corridors from France to Germany and/or Switserland vv. Which operators are possible candidates, is still unknown. - Alstom

[FR] Veolia latest Prima
Last week, the arrival of the first ECR E186 (number 162) in France, was great news, but we must not forget that also Alstom is still delivering new Prima locomotives to private operators. Veolia recently got the red-grey painted E37508 and E37509 for example. Remarkable however is that on both locomotives the Veolia front logos have been replaced by those of CB Rail, the leasing company already present on this website. Apparently the latest batch of Primas for Veolia are financed in a different way. Also new is that E37508 also carries an UIC number: 91 87 0 037 508-5 F-CBR. - TEV forum
