DB Cargo is the new DB Schenker Rail
|
|
update 2016|03|03
DB Cargo is the new DB Schenker Rail
You may have read about the current re-organization of the Deutsche Bahn. Together with consultation company McKinsey, it is redefining its services and organizational structure, so it can face the rapidly changing market circumstances.
One of the measures taken is the merger of all rail transport services of the Deutsche Bahn into one division now called 'Traffic & Transport'. Railfreight logistics is taken out of the logistics division and will continue under the 'good old' DB Cargo brand name. To the outside world the Traffic & Transport division will brand itself as 'DB' so we don't expect locomotives nor carriages to get DB Cargo logos again. So the DB logo currently in use will stay as it is.
Until the end, all international railfreight divisions (for example DB Schenker Rail Polska and DB Schenker Rail Italia) will be renamed as DB Cargo.
The non-rail logistic services will continue under the name DB Schenker. Separating the rail related activities from the rest fits the strategy to (partially) sell the new DB Schenker. DB has intentions to do this, but faces strong opposition form the German government. To be continued.
For our website, it means we have to rename the owner name of several thousands of locomotives. This will be done in one big batch. We are working on it.

[DE] If new locomotives come in, other must go
We report about new locomotives. Newly built and recently delivered locomotives. But newcomers replace older ones, finally resulting in very old locomotives having to end their career. On 03.09.2014 DB Schenker locomotive 185 061 took six DB 155 series locomotives (155 042-5, 155 105-0, 155 139-9, 155 221-5, 155 268-6, 155 272-8) from Rostock to Cologne. Most reports say they will be scrapped, or will there still be a second life? - MG/DSO

[DE] 185.1s without logos soon to be history [updated]
In December 2003 and January 2004, four Traxx AC1 locomotives were delivered to DB Schenker without logos; they only had a white bar up front. They were released from work in the transition period, during which the DB was replacing DB logos with Railion2 logos. The locomotives involved were 185 152, 153, 154 and 155. Like the 152 (2nd round) and 189 series (1st round), also the 185.1 is due for a first round of main overhauls.
In the mean time, 185 153, 154 and 155 have got their overhaul:
185 153: Magdeburg Rothensee, IS770, LMR 04.10.2011
185 154: Magdeburg Rothensee, IS770, LMR 16.09.2011
185 155: Magdeburg Rothensee, IS770, LMR 14.10.2011
The 185 152 has, as you may know, the K+S promotional livery since 2007. Underneath there is still the naked livery. Let's see what happens there. Of the 153 and 154 we have a picture of their new livery, but 155 is still missing. Can anyone tell us what it looks like now?

[DE] 185 050 back in service!
We missed this! After more than three years after its accident, DB Schenker 185 050-2 is back in service. On 11.04.2008 it had a collision with DB 151 084 in Neumarkt/Kallham and one cab was torn open completely on one side. From 03.03.2009 until 20.04.2011 the locomotive was put aside. Then the Dessau works started an overhaul including damage repair and since 22.06.2011 it is back in service again.

[DE] DB Schenker restarted overhauls on 185 series
Due to the economical crisis, DB Schenker postpones regular overhauls on 185 series electrics. Units (that we can report on) that are or have been out of service because of the overhaul-stop are 185 007, 008, 011, 012, 014, 015, 016, 019, 040, 041, 042, 044, 045, 046, 048, 049 and 050. All are/were stabled around the work shops of Dessau. - NH
The images however that some of these units have been re-activated. They show a convoy with the freshly overhauled 185 045 and 046.
nb. The overhaul-stop did not involve 185 020-039, which are fit for running in France.

[DE] Open door day in Dessau
Today, the work shops of Dessau, one of the most important in Germany, had an open door day. Some impressions here!
Concerning modern electrics, many interestings locomotives were listed;
-> Because of the crisis, many DB Schenker electrics are taken out of service. This also concerns modern locomotives of the 152 and 185 series, when they are due for an overhaul. In Dessau, 185 007, 008, 011, 012, 014, 015, 016, 019 and 041 are stabled, waiting for more prosperous times.
-> Next to that, several DB Schenker machines are stored in Dessau after an accident, for example 152 108, 185 050, 185 112, 185 121 and 185 345. They were only working on repairing 152 108.
-> The economical crisis also effects the market for leasing and hiring locomotives. In Dessau several unemployed lease-locomotives can be found; ATC 145 097, ATC 145 098, ATC 185-CL 008, ATC 185-CL 009, ATC 185 515-4, and ATC 185 520-4.
Other interesting vehicles: CFL 4011 (damage repair), Hector Rail 441 001 (reason unknown), MRCE Dispolok ES 64 U2-099 (overhaul, being returned by EVB), ATC 185 516 (overhaul). - DR

update 2009|06|25
[DE] from Kassel
Several unsolved cases from Kassel this time. First one is about the three prototype 185 series locomotives built for DB Schenker back in 1999. The image shows the recent come-back of the 185 003 Kassel. Several websites mention the recent withdrawal of all three machens (per 04.05.2009) and that one of the 185 001-003 have been seen with a NVR number ending with -BTK and not -DB. Let's see what the future will bring!
- elektrolok.de / CK
Another case is that of again two Traxx F140 MS locomotives for operator Veolia. This operator has 9 Traxx machines on order (3x F140 AC2 / 185 and 6x F140 MS / 186). Three have been completed in 2008; 185 598, 186 181 and 186 182. The first one is parked around Kassel ever since, the other two lost their Veolia logos after delivery and were rented out to ITL. However, this operator has recently ended the contract for both machines so now they are back by Bombardier again.
Last week, two new electrics in the colours of Veolia have been spotted during their maiden run: 186 184 and 185. So new machines are still to come. Let's see how the story of the Traxx fleet of Veolia continues. - DSO/Rolandrail.net/DSO

[DE] its all in the details...
Railion unit 185 010 had its first main overhaul last month, it's livery changes illustrate nicely the identity crisis DB/DB Cargo/Railion/Railion DB Logistics/DB Schenker has suffered from in the past decade. After many years, many identities, and many different logos, we are almost where we were at the beginning, but than just a little different. Up front, the 010 got the same DB logos as it got by delivery eight years ago, but its white warning strips got just a little smaller, resulting from the period machines got Railion/DB Logistics logos, which just needed a little more space. Now someone has to make special red vynils to shorten them a bit. On both sides its even more curious, there a DB logo has to be taken of to make place for exactly the same logo, but only a bit smaller.

[DE] 185 prototype units being upgraded
DB Schenker 185 001-003, the three prototype units for the 185 series, are technically being upgraded in Kassel, to eliminate most differences compared to the serie machines. One of those adjustments is installing new head lights and lamp fittings, resulting in a curious looking solution on 185 003, see picture. All three machines, by the way, do also loose their Traxx promotional vinyls during their upgrade, to be replaced by a normal, small DB logo on both sides. 185 003 is now in Hennigsdorf for trails, 185 002 is in Kassel, 001 is still in regular service, waiting for things to come. - SS

[AT] crash in Neumarkt-Kallham
Today, at Neumarkt-Kallham in Austria, a timber-freight train, hauled by 185 050, ran into another freight train, hauled by a Railion 151 series locomotive. Fortunately there were no personal tragedies, but the material damage is considerable. Especially locomotive 185 050 is badly damaged as it was crushed against the carriages of the other freight train. - EBFO

[DE] the DB about its new corporate identity
In the current issue of Railways (01.2008), a magazine published online by the DB/Railion, an article can be found in which the DB makes clear how its new names, logos and identity will be applied on its rolling stock. For locomotives, not much will change; what was expected becomes reality, all machines will get only a DB logo, because this subscribes the neutral character of DB Schenker and DB Intermodal (Both DB subsidiaries for freight operation) in respect to its customers that operate in the (inter)national logistics market too. - Railways / Railion.com

185 085-149 are equipped for services in Switzerland. They were delivered as such and have the Swiss package, inclusing ZUB/Integra signalling systems, cameras and two additionel pantographs with smaller contacts, required in Switzerland with its numerous tunnels. The DB intensively cooperates with BLS Cargo in Switserland, so that these machines are often used in mixed service with the technical identical BLS' Re 485 series. Some XS configurated machines have been spotted with small BLS logos on their sides.
185 XA configuration: : certified for Austria and Germany
185 040-059 have unrestricted access to the Austrian rail network since 2005. No XA units, but 185 085-094 got a restricted access to Austria in 2004, so they could run on the corridor St. Margrethen - Wolfurt.
EST Crash buffers
185 155-159 were delivered with EST Crash buffers, easy to recognize as they are painted red by these machines.
ETCS equipment
185 101-110 are fitted with ETCS signalling system for services in Switzerland since December 2007. They are easy to recognize by the NVR service numbers on both sides.

DB Schenker Traxx AC1: promotional liveries |
|
185 011 promoting Railion
For a logistics fair in Munich in 2000, 185 011 got Railion1 logos, sticked over its standard DB logos. Before it was delivered to the DB, these logos were removed again.
185 087 promoting Bombardier
185 087 was present at the international railway fair Innotrans 2002 in Berlin. Therefore it was decorated with Bombardier promotional inscriptions. They were removed again before the machine was delivered to the DB.
