order details |
Since 2001 SBB Cargo, the freight division of federal operator SBB from Switzerland, has purchased 50 Traxx Ac locomotives. The last batch of 15 machines, delivered in 2006, represent the Traxx 2 platform. As Bombardier decided to upgrade its production line in Kassel for AC locomotives for DB Schenker (its main customer) in from Traxx 1 to Traxx 2 in January 2005, other operators had no choice than to follow. Same for SBB Cargo, which got 15 red and blue painted machines in 2006. That very same year it was the first operator to get machines of this type homologated for Austria. |
|
Remarkable is the history of Re 482 035, originally built as demonstrator for Bombardier. With its original service number 185 561 it was used to perform first dynamic trials with the improved platform in 2004. SBB Cargo and Bombardier agreed on the second hand delivery of this machine.

[CH] DB Schenker over the Gotthard with SBB Cargo instead of BLS Cargo
It is rumbling on the Gotthard line. After years of cooperation with BLS Cargo, DB Schenker has closed a deal with SBB Cargo in stead for the Gotthard transit services, starting in December 2013. Curious detail is that DB Schenker itself owns 45% of BLS Cargo, the company that now looses an important part of its transport volume.
