1st order |
Veolia Cargo, rail freight operator and part of the Veolia Transportation group, was the only open-access rail operator in Europe that purchased first generation Prima electrics. To be sure of a fast and smooth homologation process in France and Germany, Veolia demanded machines that were 100% identical to the BB 37000 series of Fret-SNCF, the freight operator of French national railways, that already had its approval.
As the activities of Veolia were booming, the initial Prima order of three was extended three times, growing up to 31 new units. However, the contract of extension three and four was renegotiated before delivery. CBRail decided to finance 16 units. Veolia hired six of them, the rest was available to other customers of CBRail. In August 2009, Veolia had 15 E 37500s to its disposition.
The end of Veolia Cargo
In 2010 everything changed. Veolia decided to sell all its rail freight activities to strenghten its financial position; the economical crisis of 2008 was there. All French activities were sold to Eurotunnel, the international divisions were acquired by Fret-SNCF. It started a complicated process during which the new owners had to integrate all Veolia divisions into their own corporate structure.
As a result, the fleet of 15 E 37500s was torn apart. Units 501-505 and 509 were sold to Europorte, subsidiary of Eurotunnel. The other nine locomotives ended up by VC Holding, part of SNCF Geodis.
Nevertheless, the Veolia E 37500 story was over.

[FR] Europorte presents its new corporate structure/identity..
Without our permission, Eurotunnel presents a visual of a Prima electric on its website, giving away their idea about the future livery of Eurotunnel operated Prima locomotives. Eurotunnel acquired the French divisions of Veolia Cargo and has restructured them:
Veolia Cargo France SAS > Europorte France
Veolia Cargo Link > Europorte Link
CFTA Cargo > Europorte Proximity
Europorte 2 > Europorte Channel
Socorail > Socorail
Veolia Cargo SAS (from Nanterre, which name is not changed up till now) is the company which owns/hires the red/grey Prima locomotives. Veolia Cargo France SAS (from Paris) operated several of them, which is now continued under the name of Europorte France. - LC/KAR

[FR] Veolia latest Prima
Last week, the arrival of the first ECR E186 (number 162) in France, was great news, but we must not forget that also Alstom is still delivering new Prima locomotives to private operators. Veolia recently got the red-grey painted E37508 and E37509 for example. Remarkable however is that on both locomotives the Veolia front logos have been replaced by those of CB Rail, the leasing company already present on this website. Apparently the latest batch of Primas for Veolia are financed in a different way. Also new is that E37508 also carries an UIC number: 91 87 0 037 508-5 F-CBR. - TEV forum

The Veolia machine is the very first locomotive of a new batch, that will boost the Veolia Prima fleet up to 17 machines. When completed, another 14 machines will be delivered.
