RWB/MWB 1116 series |
Taken from the ongoing production of 1116 series locomotives for the Austrian operator OBB, two machines got a different employer. Numbered 1116 911 and 912 both machines went into service in 2003 for the Rheinweserbahn, a cooperation of several open access freight operators, e.g. the Mittelweserbahn, EBM Cargo, SETG and StLB. They joined to set up the Ecco Cargo freight network across central European countries. However, EBM Cargo went bankrupt in 2004 and Rheinweserbahn Spedition was formed. The Ecco network is still a success. Nowadays both machines are operated by the Mittelweserbahn, both carrying the blue and yellow corporate colours.

[AT] Download now: That typical Taurus melody
You may have heard it? When a Siemens ES64U2 type locomotive enters or leaves that station, it makes music, it produces a melody. Some say it sounds like an Alt-Sax. The ÖBB has recorded the sound for you, read more.

[DE] KISS trains replace ODEG locomotives
The ODEG services with CityShuttle coaches and the Metronom-rake on the RE4 line have ended. No exotic combinations with colorful locomotives anymore, but the long awaitd KISS trains (ET 445.102, 109, 110 und 111). Arriva 183 004 is back in the South of Germany. - DSO

[DE] KISS trainsets not approved = ODEG replacement stock
Tomorrow, ODEG needs to start services on the RE4 line (Rathenow-Jüterbog) with alternative rolling stock will be used. The Eisenbahn Bundesamt (EBA) has not given its final permission for the ODEG KISS trainsets.
MWB 1116 911 and 912, MRCE Dispolok/TXL ES 64 U2-011 and 029, and HUPAC/Raildox ES 64 U2-100 are called in at Berlin-Grünau, as shown on the pictures. - SC/Stadler Rail

[DE] ODEG: staff training with ES 64 U2 locomotives [edit]
ES 64 U2-100 and 1116 912, both in Berlin-Grünau with a motley collection of coaches on 25.10.2012. Both machines were being used for training of ODEG staff on the ES64U2 locomotive. - SC
[edit] We got remarks on the original news item. Verkehrsverbundes Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) has been mediating already on the KISS-issue. For the VBB it is of utmost importance that the current service level on the RE2 and RE4 lines from to Berlin is maintained, despite the possibility that ODEG will not be able to use its KISS-trainsets starting on 09.12.2012.
On the RE2 line (Wismar-Wittenberge-Berlin-Cottbus) DB Regio will help out. They will simply continue the current services on this line with ten locomotives and rakes.
For the RE4 line (Rathenow-Jüterbog) ODEG plans to use the KISS-trainsets that will be available for revenue service in December. Of course, this will only be possible if the KISS-trains will have their approval by the authorities (EBA). If not, alternative rolling stock will be used.

[DE] ODEG replacement trains with MWB 1116

update 2012|10|22
[DE] ODEG replacement trains with MWB 1116
In December 2012, the Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH (ODEG) takes over the RE2 and RE4 services, radiating from Berlin, from DB Regio. Sixteen KISS double deck trainsets from Stadler Rail will be used. However, it is expected that the thirteen trainsets required for the full time table will not be available on time. In September, Stadler Rail only has nine trainsets fully completed. Next to that, the Eisenbahn Bundesamt (EBA) has not given its final approval to the KISS for Germany, yet.
So, ODEG is seeking for alternative rolling stock to supplement the fleet. Like in previous years we will experience locomotive hauled replacement trains. Last week, MWB 1116 912-5 ran to Berlin with three Muller-coaches, being the first reinforcement. - DSO/KAR

Brand new 1116 911, blue, and 1116 912, red, will join forces for the Rheinweserbahn.
two machines taken from the OBB 1116 series production line
In 2003 the production of 1116 series locomotives at the OBB workshops of Linz was on full throttle. In May 2003 however locomotive 1116 131 appeared without having its full service numbers applied up front (they just said 1116 ..1-.) and the large white OBB logos were missing! Then it got service number 1116 911-7 and it was planned to deliver the all red machine as such, but there were some complications; With this number the loco was not allowed to run in Austria! So for its dynamic trials, and for one week, the machine got its originally planned service numbers back; 1116 131. At that time, the purpose was of all this ´number-magic´ was still unknown, up to the end of May. A new German-Austrian collective for freight operation, named RheinWeserBahn, purchased it. In November 2003 a second machine completed the very same process, as OBB 1116 171 became Rheinweserbahn 1116 912.
about Rheinweserbahn and its participants
Four private companies joined the RheinWeserbahn cooperation; First two member were German open access operators; MittelWeserBahn GmbH got the 1116 911 and EMB Cargo the 1116 912. The 911 got small green SETG logos by delivery, the third member of the cooperation. SETG is an Austrian freight-forwarding agency and partially owned by the MWB. Fourth member is the Salzburger Lokalbahn SLB from Austria, which took care of composing the convoys.
about Ecco Cargo
The Rheinweserbahn set up the "Ecco Cargo" network, specialized in the transport of single units or small sets of carriages. At the start, both machines worked at the Ecco Cargo "trunk route" from Cologne via Darmstadt and Donauworth (north of Augsburg) to Salzburg.
EBM goes bankrupt
Since the start in 2003, much has changed for the Rheinweserbahn and its Ecco Cargo network. The cooperation lost one participant in May 2004, when EBM Cargo went bankrupt. 1116 912 became property of the MittelWeserBahn. Ecco Cargo however is a big success, both machines are still exploited intensively by the RheinWeserBahn, nowadays renamed as RheinWeserBahnspedition.
Before 1116 912 turned blue, it got its red EBM colours covered by a striking Holzhacksel-print.
