In 2001, the GySEV, a independent operator in the Hungarian-Austrian border area, ordered five high performance locomotives of the type ES64U2 by Siemens, together with the MAV, the Hungarian state operator. Because the GySEV 1047 series is identical to the OBB 1116 series, it was possible, that 9 months after order placement, the 1047 501 was finished already. Between May and November 2002 the complete batch delivered. They are used for all sorts of trains in Hungary and Austria, but are also approved for Germany. This is possible because they have the EVM120 (Hungary) and Indusi (Germany and Austria) train signalling and safety systems and they have a traction system for 15kV AC and 25kV AC. Although these locos are high-performance locomotives, the GySEV uses them for all sorts of services, even for regional services.
DSO brings the information about a new service plan for the ÖBB 1116 series locomotives, that are hired to GySEV (units 1116 061-065). These machines are red, but have GySEV logos. Starting on 13.12.2014, they will be used for various passenger services connecting Budapest (HU), München (DE), Buchs SG (CH), Jesenice (SI).

Since September, GySEV Cargo Zrt, a 100% affiliate of the GySEV from Hungary, is hiring MRCE ES 64 U2-070. The locomotive came to GySEV after a revision in Linz (REV 25.08.2014). You have to look twice, but yes, this is not MRCE ES 64 U2-009. Here we see images of a GySEV locomotive: 470 505. The livery of both locomotives is almost identical.
BTW, GySEV 470 505 was previously running in a full themed livery about national hero István Szécheny. One colorful livery has therefore replaced the other one.
Update: There are two reasons why GySEV wants new locomotives. They want to return the 1116 series locomotives they're currently hiring from the Austrian Railways. Secondly, they want to enlarge the fleet of electrics as more lines they are operating will be electrified (for example Szombathely – Porpác – Csorna).
Liszt has become Wagner, a new promotional livery for GySEV 470 503. The locomotive now commemorates the 200th day of birth of the German composer. The locomotive and its new design were revealed on 17.07.2013. Check out images of the presentation here. - MV

Last Saturday, there was also an open door day at the workshops in Linz (AT). Remarkable: 1116 071 is retrofitted for services in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. ES 64 U2-067 'Siemens Trainguard is still in Linz. DB Schenker 189 048 was in Linz for its R1 overhaul. Fuori Muro's 190 313 now has a blue roof, blue lamp houses and a completely red front. - HP/KB

Since today, GySEV locomotive no. 470 505 is in revenue service looking all fine again. Loc & More, the company that has produced the promotional livery of the locomotive, has replaced the damaged parts of the vinyls on side 2 of the locomotive. Around two square meters of vinyl was put on again.
The original livery was damaged / had to be removed during the repair of the frame in the work shops of Linz [AT], after 470 505 derailed on 21.01.2011. - PH/GySEV

A picture of today, taken at Budapest-Keleti station. MÁV-TRAKCIÓ 480 008 has just arrived at Budapest with IC 364 “Ady Endre” from Cluj Napoca. On the right you see 470 502 with IC 917 “Halászbástya-Liszt Ferenc” from Sopron.
As you can see, the GySEV and MAV locomotive have a new service number, following the same number system as the new 480 series. Up front they have a short 470 series number. On their sides new NVR-numbers are applied (91 43 0470 50x-x H-GYSEV for the GySEV locomotives)
The Siemens ES64U2 locomotives were delivered to MÁV-TRAKCIÓ and GySEV with service numbers based on the Austrian number system. Why, is still unknown. - PH

Today, GYSEV revealed the new promotional livery of locomotive 1047 503. Theme is the 200th birthday and the 125th deathday of the famous composer Franz Liszt/Liszt Ferenc. After the presentation the unit made a first run with IC 933/913 to Budapest-Keleti. - PH/IM/FM

GySEV unit 1047 504 got a new promotional livery. Mozart being the first in 2006, now another famous music composer got its own locomotive; Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). This year is Haydn-year in Austria and Hungary. Design of this livery has been made by Gudrun Gieblinger.

It seems that there is bad omen over every Siemens electric touched by Austrian-Hungarian operator GySEV... Today 1047 505 collapsed with truck in Rábapatonán, resulting in eneough damage to the locomotive to put it aside for a while... It is the third (after 502/504) of 5 (!) machines that now needs extensive repairs... And this news comes just a few days after the 1047 504, after more than a year, is completed....
