MAV 1047 series |
Together with GySEV, the MAV ordered ten high performance locomotives of the type ES64U2 by Siemens in September 2001. Because the MAV 1047 series is identical to the OBB 1116 series, it was possible, that 8 months after order placement, the 1047 001 already could be presented. Between March and November 2002 the complete batch was delivered. They are used for all sorts of trains in Hungary and Austria, but are also approved for Germany. This is possible because they have the EVM120 (Hungary) and Indusi (Germany and Austria) train signalling and safety systems and they have a traction system for 15kV AC and 25kV AC. The locomotives are mainly used for the IC- and EC-services between Vienna and Budapest. |

Yesterday, MAV 470 010 was presented at Budapest-Nyugati station with its new livery homouring the Aranycsapat, or Golden football team of 1954. After that, it hauled IC 654 "Vércse" Budapest-Nyugati–Szolnok–Debrecen–Nyíregyháza–Miskolc-Tiszai–Budapest-Keleti.

A picture of today, taken at Budapest-Keleti station. MÁV-TRAKCIÓ 480 008 has just arrived at Budapest with IC 364 “Ady Endre” from Cluj Napoca. On the right you see 470 502 with IC 917 “Halászbástya-Liszt Ferenc” from Sopron.
As you can see, the GySEV and MAV locomotive have a new service number, following the same number system as the new 480 series. Up front they have a short 470 series number. On their sides new NVR-numbers are applied (91 43 0470 50x-x H-GYSEV for the GySEV locomotives)
The Siemens ES64U2 locomotives were delivered to MÁV-TRAKCIÓ and GySEV with service numbers based on the Austrian number system. Why, is still unknown. - PH

railwayinsider.eu reports on MÁV-TRAKCIÓ having launched a tender to equip its ten 1047 series locomotives with ETCS. Companies interested can submit their offer until 26.08.2011. With ETCS, the locomotives will be authorized to run in Hungary, Romania, Germany and Austria. The project should be completed 38 months after signing the contract.

Today there was a real TAURUS-parade in Villach, Austria! Participants were a MAV 1047, a GySEV 1047, 1016 023 'KYOTO', 1116 100 'LID', 1116 200 'Semmering' and a red 1016, 1116 and 2016.

In 2003, MAV locomotive 1047 010-2 lost one of its pantographs. For unknown reason, the MÁV operated the 010 for about six months with only one pantograph. During that period it was used in the V43-schedule of Budapest-Ferencváros. The images show the locomotive at Budapest-Déli on 17.03.2003. The locomotive hauls a rapid train from Budapest to Szombathely via Székesfehérvár and Veszprém. - PH

The brand new 1047 001 has left the factories in Munchen and ready for its first run.
Remarkable service numbers
In March 2002, the Siemens factories in Munchen-Allach completed the 1047 001. The remaining nine machines followed within months. Curious detail is that the designation the MAV selected for its new machines is in fact based on the Austrian numbering system. 1047 would be the most logical and correct service number for multi purpose electrics according to their system. As the OBB decided to use 1116, GySEV and MAV choose 1047.

In 2006, the MAV awarded the OBB workshops if Linz with a 10 year service contract for its 10 multi-purpose machines. This means 1047 001-010 will get their regular check-ups and main overhauls in Austria.

All MAV 1047 series machines are equipped with Hungarian EVM 120 safety and signalling system, for services in Austria and Germany the Indusi system is on board. Unlike GySEV, the MAV decided not to equip its 1047 series machines with the German LZB (Linienzugbeeinflussung) system, an identification and safety system for locomotives, predominanty used when running at speeds over 160 kph. For the MAV 1047 series this means that their top speed when running in Austria or Germany is limited to 160 kph. |

One could clearly see which MAV locomotive had recently had its roof tops replaced in Munchen.
basic livery
All ten MAV 1047 electrics are painted blue with yellow front ends. Colours used for rolling stock for intercity services. MAV logos complete the looks.
detail changes
1047 001, 002, 003, and 008 were delivered with both Siemens and KraussMaffei markings, perforated in their frame ends up front and on every side. The other machines only carry the name Siemens. This changed because the manufacturer of these machines changed its name in September 2001 from Siemens-KraussMaffei to Siemens after the latter one had increased its share in the total company from 25 to 75%. This of course has to be visible on the products right away!

As done by all other ES64U2 type machines, Siemens had to replace the GFK roof tops of 1047 001-010 in 2006. As the yellow colour of the MAV machines was pretty bleached out by that time, it was easy to see which machine already went to Munchen for their new rooftops. |
